The law has changed in Scotland. From 6 October 2026, Awaab’s Law comes into force to ensure damp and mould is dealt with by landlords quickly.<\/p>\n
What is Awaab’s Law?<\/strong><\/p>\n The Scottish Government has introduced new duties on landlords to tackle damp and mould. This is referred to as “Awaab’s Law”, named in memory of two-year-old Awaab Ishak who died from a serious lung condition caused by mould in his home in England.<\/p>\n What happens if you report damp or mould?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you spot damp or mould in your home (here’s what to look out for<\/a>) you should let us know immediately in the same way that you would report a repair. If we are visiting your home and notice damp or mould, will will report this for you. Once a report has been made, we will investigate the issue and begin any necessary repairs within the following timescales:<\/p>\n When you report damp or mould to us, we may ask you some questions to help us understand the nature of the problem. For example, we might ask about:<\/p>\n What happens next?<\/strong><\/p>\n If repairs are necessary, we will complete the work within 20 working days<\/strong>. Damp and mould can be complex and in some cases may re-appear.
