The Harbour Homes Placemaking Team did a great job of understanding the skills that we had available to offer, connecting us with a local, Leith-based charity quickly and efficiently, whilst offering helpful, informative and friendly support throughout.<\/p>\n<p>As the aim of the project was to help improve a charity\u2019s online services, or to potentially offer advise on how a charity could build their online presence in-house, Hillside recognised that flexibility was key, offering a bespoke service in response to the selected charity\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Bells had been successful in building an online presence over many years of operation, but like all ambitious businesses and charities, they were eager to find ways in which they could improve their website, recognised to be an important tool for connecting with their community and making connections.<\/p>\n<p>Things got kicked off with discussion, followed by Hillside conducting an audit of the Dr. Bells website. It was agreed that the best approach would be to preserve the existing site, focussing on tasks such as improving performance and consistency of presentation, ensuring that main pages used global headers, footers, typefaces, etc.<\/p>\n<p>As it was spring, it seemed only right to make time for a good old spring clean also, as the site\u2019s database was working less efficiently than ideal. Hillside were able to reduce the number of records in the database by over 37%, whilst reducing its overall size by a whopping 87%.
