Community Works is Harbour\u2019s employability service open to all tenants. We can help you to change direction, change jobs or look to get into volunteering, college or training. We have some certificated training available including preparing for job interviews, food hygiene and health and safety.<\/p>\n
Our Employability Officer, Jane Whiting, works one to one with tenants (and others in north Edinburgh) to find out what they are looking for, analyse their skills and abilities, then make a plan to move forward. Read a few of Jane\u2019s recent case studies below.<\/p>\n
Sarah*<\/strong>, referred by Harbour Homes\u2019 Tenant Advice Team, had been a tenant for ten years. She was a single mother to two school age children, with her own business.<\/p>\n Jane from Harbour Homes’ Community Works team reviewed her CV and encouraged Sarah to apply for a supply role recommended by a friend. Sarah\u2019s application was a success and she got the job.<\/p>\n Unfortunately income from her business was seasonal and patchy at times, so she was seeking work for two days a week that fitted around school hours and self-employment. Sarah had a very clear idea of what she would enjoy and have skills for, which was a great start.<\/p>\n Louise*<\/strong> came to see Jane after a friend had a good experience and was helped into a new job. Her confidence was low despite being very employable.<\/p>\n The role had become more rushed as a call centre job and less focused on helping people which is what Louise enjoyed.
