Response to Edinburgh IJB funding cuts

Statement from Harbour Homes’ Chief Executive Officer on the proposed cuts to Edinburgh IJB funding

“The proposed cuts to third-sector funding will have a direct impact on our tenants in Leith and north Edinburgh. The voluntary organisations at risk are a lifeline that we cannot do without. They are vital for reducing inequalities and isolation within our most vulnerable communities.

I am deeply concerned, as Chief Executive of Leith’s biggest social landlord, that our tenants will be especially harmed by these cuts. Many of our tenants live in areas of high deprivation, some recorded as being within the most deprived 5% of Scotland. This includes Leith, Muirhouse, Restalrig and Craigentinny West. To lose these third-sector resources would be destructive for our communities and put increased pressure on statutory services in Edinburgh.

Harbour Homes is more than a housing association, we are a community anchor, and we strongly oppose the proposed cuts to funding. We will continue to amplify the voices of local voluntary organisations and those who depend on them. It is imperative that we safeguard these essential services.”  – Heather Kiteley, Chief Executive at Harbour Homes.
