New Legislation
As of 1 Feb 2022 every home needs to have ceiling mounted interlinked fire alarms – meaning that when one alarm goes off, they all go off. The legislation also requires:
- A heat alarm in the kitchen
- A smoke alarm in the room you spend most of the day, usually your living room
- A smoke alarm in every circulation space on each storey, such as hallways and landings
If you have any carbon-fuelled appliances, such as a boiler, fire, heater or flue then you must also have a carbon monoxide detector in each room containing the appliance, these detectors do not need to be linked to the smoke alarm system.
