Local residents have been lobbying Edinburgh Council to create a safer pedestrian crossing at the entrance to Granton Harbour.
The junction has been the subject of numerous complaints from the community, with residents reporting several accidents and near misses involving pedestrians. Campaigners have been lobbying for improved safety measures including calls for a formal crossing to protect people using the busy route.
Councillors recently met and acknowledged the seriousness of the concerns raised. Complaints submitted by residents have now been accepted, with council officials agreeing that urgent action is needed.
As a result, the site will undergo a priority review by the council’s road safety team. Further updates will be provided following the assessment.
In the meantime, the Merlin Hesperus Residents Group is continuing to gather evidence to support the case for change. The group is particularly keen to collect detailed accounts of any incidents experienced or witnessed by residents. They have encouraged Harbour tenants to submit their experiences to the group via email. Photographs are particularly encouraged, if available.
The campaign marks a step forward for local road safety efforts, with many now hoping that swift action will lead to meaningful change.
