Celebrating 50 years of Harbour Homes!

Harbour Homes has been providing affordable homes and services in and around Leith for 50 years! This year has been one of celebration and reflection and, with 2025 drawing to a close, let’s look back at how we marked this special occasion.

The North Edinburgh Awards

Our first ever North Edinburgh Awards took place at Out of the Blue Drill Hall in October as part of our 50th celebrations. Tenants and members of the local community nominated neighbours, volunteers, local businesses and community groups who they felt deserved a big thank you. You can read all about the winners here.

50th anniversary film

After 50 years we felt it was a good time to re-introduce ourselves! Watch our anniversary film below featuring our Chief Executive Heather Kiteley with tenants and members of the community.

Leith Gala Day

The weather may not have been on our side, but we still had a great old time at Leith Gala Day! Our nostalgic stall (with some fabulous 70s inspired costumes!) was full of photos and memories of Leith and north Edinburgh from 1975 to the present day.

Volunteering

We’ve clocked up nearly 50 hours of volunteering in 2025 with staff helping out at Edinburgh Community Food, Equally Safe Edinburgh, Leith Chooses/The Ripple, Bethany Christian Trust, Edinburgh Youth Action and Duncan place.

Karen Miller at Edinburgh Community Food said: “Wanted to say a huge thanks to the team who came along to volunteer with us. The team were assisting the delivery drivers with the food parcels to the vulnerable families over the holidays. Each volunteer buddied the driver and delivered the food parcels in and around the city, hope they had a good experience. This relieved the drivers of handling all the boxes and the navigating on their own, having the support is vital and rewarding to all involved.”

Looking to the future with new values

There have been a few changes at Harbour Homes in the years approaching our 50th anniversary, including a rebrand and modernisation of our digital systems. To accompany these big changes, we felt it was time to review our values and bring them up to date in 2025. We’ve created a short video to explain what our new values mean.

Familiar faces at Easter Road Stadium

We wouldn’t be where we are today without our fantastic Board Members! We were joined by Board Members old and new at Easter Road Stadium in October to reflect on our journey since 1975. We were also pleased to welcome back our two former Chief Executives Mohanjit Singh and Keith Anderson who helped cut the cake alongside Heather Kiteley.

And one more slice of cake!

It wouldn’t be a proper celebration without our staff! To wrap up our 50th year, we came together in November for a fantastic celebration in Leith (with more cake!), acknowledging those who have gone above and beyond with the work they do.

A special thank you to our customers who have joined in our celebrations this year and who help make our communities brilliant. Let’s see what the next 50 years bring!
