Scottish Housing Day: Lisa’s Journey

Scottish Housing Day 2023 is all about celebrating housing as a career.

There are lots of different paths that can lead to a career in housing, and just as many different types of roles available. Lisa Haddow, our Group HR & OD Manager, describes how she enjoys the variety in housing, and finds motivation from the work we do. Read more:

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the variety in housing. The main think I like about my job is knowing that, in an indirect way, I am helping to make a difference. I work in ‘back office’ HR so don’t have much interaction with external customers. Hearing about how our organisation helps individuals, and the wider community, makes me feel motivated and gives job satisfaction.

When you were a child what job did you want to have when you grew up?

I changed quite a lot from vet to lawyer to air cabin crew! I’m not sure there is a link! I knew I wanted to do HR once I entered the working world and fell into housing by chance. Working in HR for a Housing Group is ideal as we get experience of working with different subsidiaries who operate in different environments.

Do you ever come across any misconceptions about your role?

That HR is there to hire and fire and police employees. Thankfully this is not what my role is about. We are here to support the development of the organisation, delivery of the strategy, ensure we have the right talent in place to deliver our services, and to support and develop our people.
